July 4th Icing for Dog Treats

Reader Josh wrote that he wanted to make dog treats with Red, White & Blue icing to celebrate the 4th of July

Great idea Josh! Use nonfat Cream Cheese or plain Yogurt as a base. You can start with 12 oz. for approx. a dozen treats.

Add either food coloring or mashed up blueberries and strawberries to make the red and blue frosting. (The berries won’t make it as bright as the food coloring but will be more natural). You can use a pastry bag (or make your own with a plastic zip type baggie with the corner cut off) to “pipe” the icing onto the cookies. Or you can simply spread it on.
