September 15, 2006
Dear Fellow Dog Lover,

September ’06 Welcome to Baggins’ Bites the fr*e monthly ezine that features pet tips, occasional recipes and much more.

In this month’s issue:
I. Survey Results so far...You Can Still Respond for the next 7 days
II. Recipes
III. Baggins Meets Winner of World's Ugliest Dog Contest

I. THANK YOU to everyone who responded to the survey sent a couple of weeks ago. If you missed it, you can still respond by clicking or (cutting and pasting) survey

It’ll only take you a couple of minutes and will help Baggins and I to fill this ezine and website with information just for you.

Here’s what we’ve learned so far.

Most of you have one to two dogs.

  • Over 60% of you live in a rural area.

  • Over 30% live in an urban area

  • 10% in a suburban area.

  • You generally have healthy dogs, over 62% of you.

Allergies and overweight are the most common health issues affecting your pets, 12% each.

62% of you would rather try a natural solution before taking your pet to the vet.

If you haven’t already got Dr. Pitcairn’s book, you might want to have a look at Dr. Pitcairn. It's the "go to" resource for most dog owners who look for natural solutions.

Over 55% of you love the recipes in Baggins’ Bites and on all-natural-dog-treat.com.

You also asked for more information on canine athletic supplements, and how to have a safe walk with your pets.

Thanks again for your comments and responses. You’ll see your interests turn up in future Baggins’ Bites or on all-natural-dog-treat.com

    II. Liver Squares

    1 lb. beef liver
    1/2 tsp. garlic
    One Egg
    2 C. Whole Wheat Flour
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Directions: Mix liver, garlic, and egg in a food processor until smooth. Gradually stir in flour until you have a cake like batter. Pour into a greased 8 x 8 casserole baking dish. Bake about 30 min. or until dry. Cool. Cut into squares. Freeze individually for a yummy liver treat!

(Won’t need to thaw, dogs love something cold to chew on a warm day)

This month I’m including a Bonus recipe for all of you who said you enjoyed the recipes so much.

    A Minty Surprise

    2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
    1/3 C. Rye Flour
    1/2 C. Sunflower Seeds (shelled)
    2 Tb. Veg. Oil
    ½. C. Chicken Broth
    2 Eggs
    1/4 c. Milk
    2 Tsp. Mint

    Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend together flours and seeds. Add oil, chicken broth and egg and milk, stir well and let sit for 30 minutes. Pour mixture onto a floured surface and roll out to approximately ¼” thick. Cut into shapes with your choice cookie cutters or just cut into small squares. Bake 30 min. And let cool. Makes 3 or 4 dozen.

The mint is a natural breath freshener.

III.In case you missed it, Baggins met Pee Wee Martini at a recent party.

Pee Wee Martini gained celebrity status earlier in the summer when he won the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Have a look at Baggins Meets Pee Wee Martini and see what you think.
