This Beefy Dog Treat Recipe is grain free for those who prefer to limit the amount of grain their pets eat for health or medical reasons.
Beefy Grain-Free Treats
You can make these large or small and even feed them in place of a meal.
1/2 pound ground beef—uncooked
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/3 cup black beans, cooked—mashed
1/3 cup cottage cheese
Mix ground meat and chicken broth in a bowl. Add the black beans and cottage cheese. Mix all of the ingredients together thoroughly. Shape the mixture into bones or squares and place on a cookie sheet. You can make them big or little. Bake for 45 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Let cool.
Why reduce the grain in your pet's diet?
Some people do it because the pet is overweight and go for the high protein low carb diet--kind of like Atkins for pets. Other dogs are simply very sensitive to grains and react poorly to them, getting sick easily.
It's really up to you if you want to limit the grains in your pet's diet but this recipe can make a good homemade meal for your pet.
