Low Protein Dog Treat Recipe
Low Protein Veggie Treats

Why A Low Protein Dog Treat Recipe?

I'm not a vet but my research and readers tell me dogs with kidney failure respond better to low protein diets.

Why? The kidneys don't have to work as hard to process the food.

Talk with your vet to determine a special diet for a pet with kidney failure.

Low Protein Veggie Treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder (optional)

  • 6 Tablespoons low sodium, low fat chicken broth

  • 1/2 cup cold water

  • 1 cup cooked vegetable (sweet potatoes, zucchini or winter squashes—cooked and smashed or pureed)

  • Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine flour and garlic powder. Mix in chicken broth and vegetable(s). Add enough cold water to form a ball. Roll out dough to 1/2" and using a cookie cutter, cut into shapes (your choice—I like to use one shaped like a bone or a heart). Place on a non-stick cookie sheet & bake for 25 minutes. Let cool.

Since there are no preservatives, I recommend storing all homemade dog treats in the refrigerator.

You Can Help Your Pet Live Longer

There are so many pets getting serious diseases like kidney disease, diabetes, allergies and even cancer.

10 years ago, I had no idea dogs could get these diseases. But they can and they're rampant.

My dog was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. After all, I run a site about healthy dog treats!

Then I found out cancer is the # 1 killer of dogs over 10 years old.

    I was shocked!

I started researching cancer treatments and I came across a veterinarian named Dr. Jones. Seems this vet is upset too. He lost his dog to cancer when the dog was only 8 years old.

And he wants to show us how we can

protect our pets from the beginning to help them have the longest and healthiest lives possible.
