Mandy

by Shirley
(Advance, NC)

Mandy, pregnant at the time, was picked up by animal control in December. She was missing some teeth and had infection in her gums and her ribs were showing. She also had matted hair, which had to be removed.

The animal shelter called a tech at my vet's office to see if she would foster Mandy until she had her puppies. The kind tech took Mandy home and Mandy had 4 puppies within a few days.

I went to the vet office one day to pick up a prescription for my dog, another rescue. I saw the puppies and asked about them.

The tech went to get "Mandy" to show me the mother and when I saw her I knew I had to adopt her. She was so sad looking, teeth missing and so skinny. The time on the streets of a town in North Carolina had taken its toll on Mandy.

She had been shot with a bb gun while alone on the streets. I adopted her, had her spayed and necessary shots given.

For a long period Mandy was scared to eat her food, she would look at us to see if it was okay for her to eat. I had to hand feed her for a while.

It took about 4 days for Mandy to settle in with my other dog, a corgi mix. They have been best friends for 7 years now, and my husband calls her "my little girl."

You can imagine how spoiled she is. Oh yes, all puppies were adopted from my vet's office. To me, there is no better friend for life than a rescued dog. They thank you every day with devotion and love.
