Salmon Dog Treat

This salmon dog treat is loaded with healthy omega 3 fats that will nourish your pet's skin and coat banishing itchy skin and creating a shiny, beautiful coat.

If your pet has problem skin, add more omega 3's to his diet on a daily basis and see if the problem doesn't clear up in a few weeks.

Plus, my taste testers loved it!

A Grain Free Attempt

At first I tried making this grain free for those dogs who can't eat grain.

I mixed together the sweet potatoes and salmon, dropped the mixture onto a cookie sheet using a spoon and baked the mixture at 375 for 40 min.

I wouldn’t say it made cookies.

More like toasted sweet potato and salmon blobs.

Without the grain there was nothing to hold them together. Some of the edges got pretty brown and parts of them were toasty but there were mushy sections too.

After they cooled, I scraped them into Baggins’ bowl for his dinner.

He was happy.

Add Flour

Next I added one cup of flour to the mixture and spooned them onto the cookie sheet. Not grain free but a better consistency.

Then I added another 1 ½ c. of flour to the remaining mixture for an even better cookie like treat.

So, the final product isn't grain free but it's pretty healthy.

Sweet Salmon Aux Pommes

Ingredients:
  • 2 med. Sweet potatoes

  • 1 can salmon

  • 2 ½ cups flour

  • 1 tablespoon flaxseeds (optional)

  • Directions: Boil the sweet potatoes approx. 20-30 minutes until done. (You should be able to easily stick a fork in them and break them apart).

Put into a the potatoes into a food processor, add the salmon and pulse.

When the salmon and sweet potato mixture is combined, add 1 cup of flour, process until smooth then add the next cup of flour, process until smooth and finally the last ½ cup of flour.

If adding flaxseeds, you can add at the end. They’ll give the treats an extra nutty flavor and more Omega 3’s.

Using a tablespoon, spoon out some of the mixture and “drop” onto a greased cookie sheet for drop cookies.

Using the back of the spoon spread the dough out a little so it’s more or less even.

    Bake at 425 F. for 30 minutes
