Dog Treats and SBI Make a Profitable Business

I have a secret.

It's such a secret that it was even hidden from me for 30 odd years. In a minute I'll share my secret with you but first let me introduce myself.

My name is Jen and the fluffy dog here is Baggins, we're at the Farmer’s Market selling dog treats in July of 2005 in Doylestown, PA.

At the Doylestown Farmer's Market near Philadelphia, PA

If you read my About Me page, you know how I got started baking dog treats and learning more about dogs.

The bottom line is, I was looking to start a part time business to supplement my meager salary as a "Museum Professional"--(I plan the public programs at historic sites for a living).

Here Was the Problem

I had no business experience. Non profit history work is about as far away as you can get from the 'net! I knew about 19th century furniture and art but not so much about the internet.

In fact, I had just learned to send email attachments when I got started! (No kidding!) A "techie" I was not.

So, I wasn't really looking for an internet business per se. It just seemed to make sense. After all, I didn't want to deal with inventory, customers and all the rest but I'll be honest with you. It started out that way.

Getting Down to Business

See, what happened was this.

I took a look around and I knew I wanted something low tech and low capital--I didn't have any money--and I felt like I didn't have very transferable skills. What could I do?

Well, Baggins wagged his tail at me and my idea was born!

Yes, I started baking dog treats. Well, actually, I thought I'd do a site about baking dog treats but since I'd never baked dog treats before I thought I should get some experience.

So, I started baking treats and selling them at the Farmer's Market.

Things went pretty well. I learned a lot and talked to a lot of people (and dogs). But it was a lot of work! Baking every night after work, bagging the treats on Friday night and up at 6 a.m. on Saturdays to peddle my treats.

And the money? Oh, I might break $50 on a good week. This wasn't quite what I had in mind as a business.

What Next?

I continued to research things online and read a gazillion "Get Rich Quick" schemes --I'm sure you've seen them. "Press the Money Button and Thousands Will Flood Your Bank Account Every Single Day--My Course Will Teach You How."

You know the ones.

Anyway, I finally stumbled upon Site Build It.

Now, this seemed both legitimate and doable. It wasn't filled with crazy sounding hype. But was it real? I was skeptical at first.

I had read too many of those "millions in a day" things. Plus, I'd just really learned to surf the web--it was 2005, I am a late adopter. Could I do this?

Enter Site Build It

Now I wasn't sure right away if it was for me.

I thought about it and debated it with my husband for a couple of weeks.

After all, I didn't know quite what it was or what to do with it and it did cost money. But I finally decided I would never know if I didn't give it try and it had a money back guarantee so I might as well give it a shot.

I figured it's the things we don't try that we most regret so I decided to go for it!

  • I liked that I could do it on my schedule. I didn't have to bake for 2-3 hours after work every night and then get up at 6 a.m. on Saturdays to go to the Farmer's Market.
  • It had a step by step guide to take me from beginning to end. I didn't have to know how to build a website SBI showed me how.
  • It had a built in support system with the forums. I figured I was going to need a lot of support!
  • It was portable. Which I really liked the sound of because I love to travel.
  • Bottom line is Site Build It (SBI) has changed my life.

It's given me a confidence I didn't have before because I did it! And believe me, I fought the computer revolution.

The beautiful thing about SBI is you don't have to know a thing about building a website because they walk you through the whole thing.

    After Awhile

Now it's three years later, and I'm still excited about SBI.

My visitors are steadily increasing--I expect to reach 20,000 next month! (My sister has a website developer husband and she's astonished my little site gets that much traffic!)

Lots of people just like you have created an online business using Site Build It.

Hear how it helped Jaime, a mom and interior designer redesign her life.

It's so exciting to take control of your own life!

Ok, in case you haven't figured out by now, my dark secret is I want to be self employed. And now with SBI, I can see that happening one day ;) How cool is that?

If you choose to join the SBI community, you'll find you're really joining a family who want to see you succeed.
