To Anon, in regards to the white German shepherd pup. GSD's, like any breed, are fraught with health problems that can be best avoided by buying from a registered breeder, not a back yard breeder. A good breeder must health check all breeding dogs and bitches and be able to show evidence of health checking. Diseases such as, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, MDR1 free, von Willebrand's (type 1) disease, and degenerative myelopathy should be checked. Research these.

The ANKC is the official body of Australia for registering purebred pedigree dogs. There are no ANKC breeders of white German shepherds, the colour white is a disqualification. There are breeders of white German shepherds that are ANKC unregistered, and are instead registered with a club body that has no affiliation with the ANKC. This does not mean they are bad breeders, but you must make sure they are ethical breeders. You can find unethical breeders anywhere, it is up to you to ascertain if a breeder is ethical. An ethical breeder will interrogate you relentlessly about you and your suitability to a pup as well as a myriad of other things.
Search, the "White German shepherd dog alliance of Victoria". The "white swiss shepherd dog club of Australia" is another alternative. A breed separate to the WGSD was recognised and accepted. They are WGSD's but are able to be registered as purebreeds in the ANKC and be showed, they are called White swiss shepherds. Before the breed was recognised, breeders in Australia were breeding unregistered white shepherds in the hope Australia would recognise their local lines. The breed was recognised, but local lines weren't. Future breeders of WSSDs would have to import WSSDs from overseas in order for them to be registered as purebred WSSDs. Hence, the WSSDCA is a breed club/body for breeders of unrecognised 'white swiss shepherds' (the local lines). They call them WSSDs, even though according to the ANKC they are white German shepherds, because that is the standard they breed to, and because they wish for the local lines to be registered and accepted as ANKC purebred White swiss shepherds.

For a purebred white swiss shepherd, check out Dogzonline. It has a list of purebred ANKC white swiss shepherds and breeders, that can be shown if you so wish.

If you are serious about a white shepherd puppy, you should be willing to pay top dollar, and to bring a pup from over east. Submit to a breeders interrogation and learn all you can about dogs and the white German/swiss shepherd.

So which do you choose? Purebred ANKC WSSD, unregistered WGSD or WSSD. Whatever you choose, the most important thing is that they are health checked, temperament tested, and the breeder understands the intrinsic necessity for early (and continued) socialisation. Desex your dog when they are 6 months or older, and continue to socialise and train them :) oh, and love them ;)
